Electrics – The tricky part. No one likes to muck around with the old cables, do they? No, me neither! But I like the stuff itself, I think these new LED (Light Emitting Diode) lights just add a little bit of neatness to the finished work. But that's a matter of taste. The fact is that LED consumes a lot less energy so it draws less power off your battery. Some may say - Who gives a'ha - but when you pay around £65 for a decent battery, and you want one with a decent CCP (Cold Crank Power) to turn around your Harley's or Custom's big bore engine, you don't really want it to last only a year, do ya? But let's leave the energy saving issue, just look at the wonderful design options you get. Bullet marker lights with or without wings or visor, diamond shape, maltese cross shape, even skull shape, fender mount, flash mount, grip mount, just about any style and fitting options you can imagine. But again, take good care when choosing, if you care about your MOT test go for the EU approved ones. But what concerns the electrics the lights are the easy part. Wiring - now you get the shivers! Yes, if you're building your Custom V-Twin yourself and you know as much about wiring a bike as me you should be scared of it as well. It's easy to go wrong there and then you're wondering why it doesn't start up? Well, the solution is, you either get a bike electrician with gold hands and diamond brain like we've got or you may consider buying a "Brain Box" for your custom bike. A Brain Box is a turn key solution for motorcycle wiring. Easy colour coding, it shouldn't give you a hard time if you have a basic technical knowledge (and you must have if you dear to build a custom bike yourself). For simpler applications, like customize your Harley Davidson® or other stock bike to change your ordinary light bulbs to LED lights there is various "Illuminator Boxes" on the market which have built in load equalizers to control the load from LED lights up to 70W halogens.
