Hertford to: Hertford

Combines a couple of the great routes already on this site. Out of Hertford west on A414 // Right at Hertingfordbury up onto Thieves Lane // left onto B1000 towards Welwyn Garden City // Nice twisty road with a downhill corkscrew mid way // right hander after corkscrew is deceiving (oncoming cars tend to run wide and has claimed to two bike fatalities // past Tewin and Welwyn turnoffs // follow though Digswell (speed bumps and lane narrowing // Over roundabout onto A1000 DualCW // Go under A1 // Straight over roundabout still on A1000 // At Clock Hotel take Left to Welwyn village//Take B656 Codicote Road (Ed note: A reader advises me that this road has been attracting some accidents, so take care, particularly on the corner by Vanstones Garden Centre // Follow through to Hitchin

twisties and quick but watch for Garden Centre Volvos and scrap yard on RHS (lorries/parking/oil)// At Hitchin take A602 East towards Stevenage // Under A1 (Stevenage North Junction) and take B197 through Graveley // at T left towards Letchworth and loop back round and take the A6141 into Baldock // At Tesco go straight over roundabout// right at next roundabout onto A507 to Buntingford // top road but plenty of speed traps (never got this road right !) // At Buntingford roundabout go South onto A10 // Do a couple of laps of the Puckeridge Indy Circuit (dualcw between the N and S Puckeridge roundabouts // back South on A10 // At Thundridge Go right onto B158 by Anchor Beefeater (twisty) // Follow B158 to Bengeo and into Hertford // Check tires are now feathered to shit...// Early Sunday evening is good and you get to do the A507 with the sun on your back. // Police generally in Gravelly area and on A507

Postcombe to: Thame

Not breathtaking but if you live nearby well worth a go. Just a couple of miles with half a dozen excellent bends. If you want to make it longer, go round the Thame ring road and follow B4011 through Long Crendon to Bicester.

St. John

Head out to the parish of St John and at the church take a right. Go past the L'Auberge de Nord pub and at the end of the road take a left. This stretch of road is known as the New North Road - it is short but an excellent place to get your knee down.

A30 Nr Staines to Staines Lap

A30 / M25 Junction. Anyone attempting 90 MPH around the A30 M25 Junction is going to get themselves killed, it is suicide. the junction is extremly busy and traffic often backs up around the blind corner. There is also a favourite police hiding place in the middle of the roundabout and traffic lights. Fortunately the police and firestation are only 1/2 mile away.

Such a sweet, sweet road. However, if you're not careful it will kill you. It's a fast road with evil curves. Like a previous poster said, if you don't know this road very, very well, ride up and down it a couple of times taking it really easy and make sure you have a good picture of the curves. Do this midweek when it's quiet and watch the t-junctions. Take great care passing other bikers (they often drift over) and watch for oncoming vehicles crossing the white lines. You WILL encounter knobs on this road, don't be one of them. The aim of the game is to get the curves so, so right. Smooth is good, ragged is bad. Mid-corner speeds are impressive. Watch out at the kink for white-line crossers. Recommended tool: ZX-7R. Recommended attitude: Silky smooth. Recommended follow-up: Can't beat a shandy and ten Benson.

An interesting road in Oxfordshire? Well, it's mostly Berkshire. A great mixture of tight twisty bits, long straights and fast curves, rolling uphill and down. Mostly dry, clean and good visibility. Very few side-roads to worry about. Watch out though - some bends tighten up unexpectedly, and there's the usual risk of mud and c*** from the farms en route. Gravel on the first few bends in the woods. Only one Gatso to date (as you re-enter Oxon from Berks), and I've never seen a police car. Never really busy, but if you avoid rush hour you'll have it all to yourself. In summer I'll drive miles out of my usual way home to re-visit this old favourite ... and I just come back the same way, it's that good!

Great road for going top whack on a sunday morning. 3 lanes of good surface and no cops ( commuted for a year including weekends), very wide but not twisty. goes 2 lane before bas but few entry/exits so easy to watch for trouble. Don't know their unmarked cars (yet) londoners - enjoy

Long straights, fast sweepers including some quick right/left, low plod interest, road surface good to very good, plenty of pubs, petrol stations and other like minded bikers.

A gorgeous Road with little sign of any coppers. I sometimes use this route on my way home from college. I don't go that fast as I have a CB125TD C. But if I get enough money I would get an Aprilia RS250 and try out the twisty section at ashburnham place. Alternatively turn left at the first junction you come to from the green section of road (If you think I am color blind then you are wrong, the roads are colored at a change in limit. Handly the road at these markers is laid with high friction asphalt like at most zebra crossings so you will be able to give it some stick from the markers without worrying about wheelspin).
